What Makes a Professional Voiceover Demo Work?

A professional voiceover demo is not a scrapbook of everything you have recorded. It is a tightly edited argument for what you can book right now.

Open with the work you want

The first spot should showcase a marketable sound, immediate connection and clean production within seconds. If conversational commercial work is your strength, do not bury it behind a dramatic piece because the dramatic piece feels impressive.

Range should remain believable

Variety is not a costume change every eight seconds. Each segment should reveal a useful lane while maintaining believable acting. Commercial, animation, narration and video-game work generally belong on separate demos because the buyers differ.

Keep the voice in front

Music and sound design establish context, but they should support the performance. If the listener has to work to hear the actor, the mix has missed the point.

Match the promise

A spectacularly produced demo creates an expectation. You must reproduce that level of performance in an audition and session. The goal is not to sound expensive for ninety seconds. The goal is to sound bookable.

A strong demo says: this is my voice, this is my range, and this is what I can deliver when you hire me.
