Should You Request a Voiceover Audition or Book Directly?
Sometimes you know the voice is right within seconds. Other projects need to hear the actual copy before the creative team can commit. Both are normal—and both should have a clear path.
Request a custom audition when fit is still the question
An audition is useful when tone is highly specific, a character needs exploration or several stakeholders need to compare approaches. Send a short representative section of the script and include the audience, intended feeling, usage and any references that explain the creative direction.
A focused audition answers the casting question without asking the actor to record the entire project for free.
Book directly when the evidence is already there
Direct booking makes sense when a demo, previous project or existing relationship has established the fit. It is also efficient for returning clients, straightforward narration and projects where the actor’s known sound is part of the reason for hiring her.
The booking inquiry should include the script length, usage, market, term, schedule, budget and whether a live directed session is required.
Usage still shapes the quote
A sixty-second recording is not one universal product. A local internal video and a national paid campaign use the performance differently. Clear usage details allow the actor or representative to quote the appropriate terms.
Both paths should feel professional
My contact page offers two choices: send specs and a script for a project-specific audition, or move directly into availability and booking details.
The goal is not to force every producer through the same funnel. It is to make the next step match the decision you are actually trying to make.
